Aquamarine is a translucent to transparent blue to pale green Beryl
( Emerald is the deep
green variety of Beryl). Most commonly, pale, icy blue.

blue sea, and so is thought to protect
sailors and ships. Said to increase rational
thought and intelligence and make persons astute in
business matters.
Western
Astrology assigns Aquamarine to Pisces, while Jewelers assign
Aquamarine to the March birthstone.
Mystics say it can bring
about wishes (ancient texts sometimes mention by the devil and
sometimes by djinn or "geniies"), evil spirits in Arabic
culture.
Aquamarine is said to subdue an overactive Throat
Chakra (i.e., the 5th Chakra).
Natural Healers use Aquamarine to increase courage
and provide
protection.
Said to quell crazed love-passion
and ensure constancy in a man's new bride.
Said to favor men named Arnold.
To dream of Aquamarines means you'll be making new friends.
Aquamarine is the state gem of Colorado.
Healing Properties: Most commonly said
to help toothaches and sore throats.
Scientific Properties: Composed of Beryllium
Aluminum Silicate (Beryl) Aquamarine is the pale blue version of
Beryl. Deep Green Beryl is
Emerald, Pink Beryl is called Morganite and Yellow Beryl is
called Heliodore.
Identified by its hardness and distinct hexagonal crystals (6 sided
crystals), Aquamarine is found in pegmatites--igneous rocks which
cooled slowly, allowing large crystals to form.
Found all over the world, principle sites include Brazil, Russia,
Uruguay and Arizona.
Hardness: 8 on the
Moh's Hardness Scale
Buyer Beware! Heat treating the gem can increase the blueness, though
thought to reduce the mystical effects of the stone. Synthetic aquamarines
are often spinels (white sapphires) treated with cobalt to create
the blueness.
