| Fluorite
Healing Properties
Fluorite gets its name from the element Fluorine, which is it mined for
and/or Fluorescence as this mineral commonly fluoresces blue under ultraviolet
light. Fluorite is a soft, translucent to transparent mineral. While it
comes in many colors, it is most commonly purple. Highly prized is the
pink and blue variety. It may be beautifully banded in white, green and
purple. It has a distinctive cubic crystal system (looks like a box) and
cleavage--i.e. to breaks very distinctly along certain planes when struck
(cleaves into a pyramid shape). It is sometimes known as Fluorspar.
Mystical Properties: Because of its softness,
it was often carved into beautiful figures or vases. The ancient Romans,
who admired purple, carved vases from Fluorite and considered them valuable
treasures.
Since Fluorite cleaves when struck, forming distinct four-sided pyramids,
it has long been associated with psychism.
It is most commonly associated with
psychic protection (probably from it's pyramid-like cleavage planes)
and fostering the intellect.
Fluorite is said to give the spirit safe journey on astral
projections and forays into the spirit world.
Rainbow Fluorite, a multi-colored banded variety, with natural pyrite
edges is sometimes called the Philosopher's Stone and many special powers
are attributed to it--such as shape-shifting, changing base metals into
gold, and increased
telepathic abilities
The rare Blue Fluorite, is said to calm emotions, while the much more
common Purple variety aids in visions. Yellow Fluorite is especially used
for improving intelligence
while White or Clear Fluorite is said to help to cleanse the spirit.
Natural Healers associate Fluorite with concentration as it is supposed
to bring balance to mental-emotional energies and reduce chaos and misguided
energies.
Fluorite is the State Mineral of Illinois.
Healing Properties: Fluorite is used to purify
and detoxify both the spirit and places. It is often recommended placed
around computers and the workplace to reduce stress and relieve negative
forces.
Scientific Properties:Composed of Calcium Fluoride.
The perfect octahedral cleavage and hardness are good identifiers of this
mineral. It frequently fluoresces under UV light. Fluorite is mined for
the element Flourine, used in creating coolants , hydrofluoric acid, and
in the making of steel and aluminum. Fluorite is a common mineral in the
Illinois-Missouri-Kentucky Tri-State mining area. 4 on the Moh's Hardness
Scale.
Owner Warning! Fluorite is rather soft and cleaves easily. Care should
be used when wearing Fluorite jewelry as it is not durable enough for
every day wear.
