Apatite Healing Properties
Apatite is a somewhat soft, very expensive gemstone that comes in many colors: from clear to white to brown, green, violet, blue or yellow. Apatite is said to get its name from the Greek word for deception (apatao), as Apatite often imitates other minerals.
Mystical Properties: Apatite is considered an important gemstone in reducing stress, often recommend to persons with burn out.
Apatite is frequently mentioned as helping to improve mental and physical strength and efficiency.
Deep blue Apatite was once prized as a vision inducing substance, and passed down from one priestess to the next.
Sometimes said to be ruled by Jupiter/Sagitarrius and other times by Mercury/Virgo.
Deep blue: Important to the 6th Chakra, or "3rd Eye" which facilitates intuition, psychic awareness, ESP and insight. Light blue: thought to open the throat Chakra (5th) and reduce stuttering. Yellow: 3rd Chakra.
Healing Properties: Blue is considered important for reducing stress and increasing muscular strength. The yellow or golden varieties are thought important in helping arthritis and other bone problems.
Scientific Properties: Composed of a complex phosphate of Ca, Chlorine and Fluorine. Chlorapatite has the presence of chlorine and hyroxyl ions, while Fluorapatite, the more common variety, contains Fluorine in its crystal structure. Found in igneous pegmatites, ore veins and sedimentary rocks, this mineral is also a major constituent of mammalian teeth and bones. Ivory is about 65 percent Apatite (the rest is mostly collagen).
Blue Apatite crystals are found in Pakistan, Afghanistan ,Brazil, brown/green in Ontario, violet in New England, Bolivia clear and purple. 5 on the Moh's Hardness Scale.
Owner Warning! Because Apatite is rather soft compared to other gemstones (i.e., about the hardness of glass), it should be worn with care. Use caution in cleaning jewelry composed of Apatite, as the stone may be broken down by some solvents
