Healing Properties
Called Moonstone for its resemblance to the silvery moon, it comes in
pure white with blue fire (Rainbow), white, gray, peach, pink and yellow.
The Greeks believed the stone was ruled by the Goddess Selene calling
it Aphroselene.
Mystical Properties: Moonstone is most commonly
associated with foretelling
the future during the full or waning of the moon. In India the stone
is associated with the Third Eye or 6th Chakra.
To achieve the desired clairvoyance and answers to questions, the stone
is placed in the mouth before bed. The answer is said to come in dreams
during the night.
This stone is often given to young
lovers in India to help them discern what their life will be like
together.
Hindu Astrology
believes Moonstone to be a secondary gem of Cancer and is considered sacred
to those born on Monday (Moon Day).
Moonstone is thought to subdue an overactive 3rd
Chakra and open a closed 6th Chakra
(3rd Eye).
To dream of Moonstone is said to be a warning of impending danger.
Supposed to
protect those at sea.
Said to favor men named Matthew and women named Mary.

Healing Properties: Said to help kidney problems.
A feminine stone, it is said to have calming properties.
Scientific Properties: Moonstone can be two
minerals: Orthoclase Feldspar (Potassium Aluminum Silicate) or sometimes
Albite Plagioclase Feldspar (Sodium Aluminum Silicate).
The luminescence characteristic of moonstone is caused by different refractive
indices of two types of feldspars. This phenomena is called shiller or
adularescence.
Found in Sri Lanka, Burma, Central and Southern India. In the U.S., in
Virginia and Pennsylvania. 6-6.5 on the Moh's
Hardness Scale.
Buyer Beware! This stone can be confused with selenite gypsum (selenite
is very soft and can be scratched with a fingernail while Moonstone is
relatively hard).
